Specialists predict the arrival of more cold fronts, with notably low minimum temperatures and significant rainfall.

EFE/14ymedio, Havana, October 27, 2026 – Cuba could be on the verge of an unusual winter season, during which meteorologists expect the arrival of more cold fronts, with notably low minimum temperatures and significant rainfall, especially between February and April 2027, state media reported on Monday.
During a forum on climate outlooks held yesterday, specialists from the Climate Center of the Institute of Meteorology, as well as from provincial Forecasting and Meteorological Centers, indicated that the presence of a “very strong” El Niño/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) event in the equatorial Pacific Ocean will affect Cuba’s weather conditions, making them “anomalous and unstable” during the six-month period from November 2026 to April 2027.
The ENSO event is expected to reach its “maximum intensity” between November and January, which will have direct implications for the behavior of the coming winter on the Island, explained Idalmis González, head of the Climate Center, as quoted by the newspaper Granma.

Regarding temperatures, meteorologists are drawing attention to the likelihood of “maximum and minimum temperatures below” the historical average during the February–March two-month period in the western, central, and eastern parts of the country, which is accustomed to generally warm winters.
Their forecasts indicate that cold air masses bringing very cold minimum temperatures could arrive as early as next December, while during February and March they consider it possible that extratropical low-pressure systems will form in the Gulf of Mexico, causing rain, strong winds, and possible coastal flooding.
Specifically, for the November–January quarter, their projections warn that precipitation will be above the historical average in the western region, close to the average in the central region, and below average in the eastern part of the country.
