14ymedio, Madrid, September 18, 2026 – Cuban authorities have detained Yoandris Reyes Mariño, known as Pichi, identified as responsible for the death of Ramón Gresequi Rodríguez, a worker at the Nickel Mechanical Company who had been reported missing in Moa, Holguín, and was subsequently found dead. The information was released this Thursday by the pro-government profile Cazador Cazado [Hunter Hunted], which is linked to the National Police.
According to the post, Reyes Mariño worked as a driver at the same company as Gresequi and identifies him as “his victimizer.” After the crime, according to the source, the accused transported the cadaver in the back of the pickup truck that had been driven by the victim to the place where he was found dead.
Subsequently, the accused took the vehicle to the Granadillo area, in the municipality of Sagua de Tánamo, where he sold it to two people. Both buyers were also detained, according to the published information. Their identities and the criminal proceedings they face have not been disclosed.

Ramón Gresequi, 59, used to drive a white Toyota pickup truck belonging to the Nickel Mechanical Company where he worked, a vehicle that has been identified as a possible motive for the murder. Gresequi was reported missing last September 8. The last time witnesses had seen him, he was driving the pickup truck.
Family members and acquaintances circulated his photograph and the vehicle’s information on social media to help locate him. For days, the search involved authorities from the Ministry of the Interior, co-workers, family members and residents of the municipality.
Gresequi’s body was found on September 11 near the Moa television tower, on Miraflores Hill, in the locality of Yaguaneque. The pro-government profile Realidades desde Holguín, linked to the Ministry of the Interior, reported that the body showed multiple signs of violence and that an investigation had been opened to determine the circumstances of the death and find those responsible.

A version released Wednesday by La Tijera stated that the pickup truck had been found burned and taken to Holguín to undergo forensic examination. This information has not been independently confirmed.
The case adds to a climate of growing public insecurity in Cuba. Reports of thefts, assaults and violent incidents in both rural and urban areas have increased as the crisis affecting the country progresses. According to the independent organization Cubalex, 52 homicides and more than 300 violent crimes were recorded in Cuba in August alone, a record figure that reflects the extent of the deterioration of security on the Island.
