The collective exhibition Estancias brings together in Old Havana works by Alina Águila, Balada Tropical, Ariamna Contino, José Miguel Costa, Susana Pilar Delahante, Alberto Domínguez, Leandro Feal, Diana Fonseca, Carlos Garaicoa, Álex Hernández, Luis López Chávez and José Mesías, a roster that combines artists of different generations and languages within contemporary Cuban creation.
Presented as a “special project,” the exhibition proposes an encounter between practices ranging from photography and installation to drawing, painting and other forms of visual experimentation. Among the participants are creators with extensive international careers, such as Carlos Garaicoa, whose work has for decades addressed architecture, urban planning, memory and political utopias, and Susana Pilar Delahante, known for a body of work focused on the body, identity, violence and the experiences of Black women.
Also participating are artists of later generations such as Leandro Feal, Diana Fonseca, Álex Hernández, Luis López Chávez and José Mesías, whose works have explored everything from the urban landscape and historical memory to the social and political tensions of contemporary Cuba.
