Declaration of the Cuban Democracy Project / Rafael León Rodríguez

Motivated by the death of the leader and founder of the Christian Liberation Movement, the Cuban Democracy Project issues the following declaration:

The Cuban Democracy Project is in mourning, after the tragic death of the leader and founder of the Christian Liberation Movement, Oswaldo Payá Sardiñas. There was a wake over his mortal remains in the Parish of Saint Savior of the World, of Cerro, attended the entire time by an immense majority of the representatives of the alternative opposition, of the Catholic Church in Cuba and of the families and associated. His mortal remains were interred yesterday at the Colon Cemetery.

The peaceful Cuban opposition has suffered a hard and unexpected blow from which we will have to recover, after the surprising and still unexplained accident that cost the lives of Payá and Harold Cepero Escalante, members of the MCL, which occurred in Granma province in the east of the country.

May his family, friends and collaborations and members of the MCL, in whatever part of the world they find themselves, receive our strong feelings of solidarity.
